The IHSA girls soccer postseason kicks in this Saturday, and with an abundance of talent, the Rockford area teams are taking aim at some long runs.
There are just two teams from the area that earned No. 1 sectional seeds, and those are the Big Northern Conference and NIC-10 champs, respectively: Byron in Class 1A and Belvidere North in 2A. But both leagues were deeper than usual this year, and there could be more teams going further than usual this postseason.
“We’ve got a lot of talent. But this conference has been strong this season,” Belvidere North head coach Rick Mateus said. “Now’s when it gets interesting.”
