Three Rockford men have been arrested on charges of first-degree murder stemming from a July 1 killing in the 500 block of Vincent Avenue.
Winnebago County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a 911 call about 10 p.m. reporting a disturbance. They found Ruben J. Hernandez, 43, of Rockford, on the front steps of the house suffering from severe head injuries.
An investigation launched by Winnebago County detectives determined that an altercation took place earlier in the evening. Several men of returned to the home “and violently assaulted the victim, resulting in his death,” police said in a news release.
Melvin D. Richardson, 35, Andre L. Richardson Jr., 35, and Kevin M. Harris, 32, all of Rockford, were charged with first-degree murder and taken to the Winnebago County Jail.
“Our detectives moved quickly and professionally to identify those responsible, and I want to commend everyone involved for their efforts in delivering justice to the victim’s family,” Winnebago County Sheriff Gary Caruana said in the release.
The Winnebago County Coroner is continuing to investigate what caused Hernandez’ death.
