PEORIA − A suspect was held Friday on first-degree murder charges in a mass shooting in 2023 that left six people injured. One victim later died of his injuries.
Jyvonnie J. Williams Jr. was taken into custody without incident by personnel assigned to the Peoria Police Department’s Special Investigations Division and the United States Marshals Service. The 22-year-old was transported to the Peoria Police Department to be interviewed and was then arrested on first-degree murder charges. On Aug. 30, 2023, police responded to the 2200 block of West Marquette Avenue in South Peoria on two Shot Spotter alerts showing a total of 29 rounds fired.
