A Peoria woman was arrested Wednesday and is accused of stabbing a 36-year-old woman to death Tuesday night at an apartment complex west of Downtown Peoria.
Keonta J. Williams, 31, was arrested on first-degree murder charges following the stabbing death of a woman Tuesday night in the 700 block of North Hightower Street.
The victim was identified as Catherine Walker-Thomas, 36, of Peoria, according to the Peoria County Coroner’s Office. An autopsy showed Walker-Thomas suffered a stab wound that was “inconsistent with life, and she likely died moments following the incident,” the coroner’s office said.
The Peoria Police Department said that at 10:12 p.m. Tuesday, they received a 911 call regarding a disturbance at the scene. The person calling initially hung up on dispatchers, but additional information was provided to officers en route to the apartment complex.
When they arrived, they found Walker-Thomas suffering from an apparent stab wound. Emergency medical aid was provided before she was transported to a local hospital, where she eventually died from her injuries.
During the investigation, Williams was identified as the suspect, and she was taken into custody Wednesday.
