The Jackson County Medical Examiner’s Office has confirmed that the pilot involved in a fatal aircraft accident Tuesday near Bethany in Harrison County, Missouri, as a 73-year-old Peoria-area man.
According to a Facebook post from Harrison County Coroner Andre Remmers, the medical examiner’s office identified the man as William M. Anderson. Anderson was operating a Piper PA‑24 Comanche that departed Peoria at about 4:39 p.m. Tuesday. The intended destination remains undetermined.
At approximately 7 p.m., the aircraft disappeared from radar, and all radio communications ceased. Law enforcement, the coroner’s office, and local fire agencies were subsequently notified and initiated response protocols.
The cause of the crash remains undetermined. The incident is currently under active investigation by the Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board.
The victim’s body was released to family Thursday.
