The Chicago Bears are adding a veteran defensive back and it’s someone very familiar to defensive backs coach Al Harris. On Friday, the team announced they have signed safety Xavier Woods and placed Dallis Flowers on injured reserve. Flowers went down during Thursday’s practice.
Woods came into the league as a sixth-round pick back in 2017 with the Dallas Cowboys. After spending his rookie season as a reserve, Woods became a starter at safety for the Cowboys from 2018 through 2020, working with Harris during their time together in Dallas.
In 2021, Woods signed with the Minnesota Vikings, spent three years with the Carolina Panthers, and last played for the Tennessee Titans in 2025. Woods appeared in 11 games and totaled two interceptions, three pass breakups, and one sack. Through nine seasons, Woods has compiled 15 interceptions and five forced fumbles.
Coming to the Bears, Woods will add depth to a group that has seen two significant injuries this week. Coby Bryant is expected to miss extended time with a knee injury, while Flowers was placed on injured reserve.
