Three people who went missing days earlier after tubing on the Muskegon River were found alive, the Michigan State Police announced late Friday.
Jazzmin Hock and Sarah Vida, both 28-year-old Muskegon residents, and Kayden Kovalcik, 9, Vida’s son, were discovered by an MSP K-9 team and Michigan DNR Conservation Officers at nearly three-quarters of a mile northeast of the Mill Iron Road Boat Launch at 4:36 pm. Friday. The news was first reported by WOOD-TV.
“We are relieved to report that Jazman Hock, Sarah Vida, and Kayden Kovalcik have been located alive and safe,” MSP officials posted on X just after 6 p.m. on Friday.
“This is the outcome everyone involved had hoped for. We are incredibly grateful for the tireless efforts of the many law enforcement agencies, fire departments, emergency responders, search and rescue teams, and volunteers who dedicated countless hours to this search.”
MSP officials said out of respect for the privacy of those involved, no additional information will be released at this time.
Troopers began searching for the three after the father of one of the missing females reported he found his daughter’s vehicle at the Maple Island Boat Launch in Grant with a broken window, according to authorities. The launch is about 16 miles east of Muskegon and about 20 miles west of Newaygo.
On Thursday, investigators had found the inflatable tubes believed to have been used by the three who disappeared on the Muskegon River after setting out on Tuesday. Michigan State Police said they also identified footprints as part of the search.
