SPRINGFIELD — A “No Kings” rally is scheduled in Springfield for this weekend.
The rally on March 28 starts at 11:30 a.m. at the capitol, in front of the Lincoln statue. A march will take place afterwards.
A webpage detailing the event calls it a “peaceful movement” and a “sustained national resistance to tyranny.”
Multiple of these rallies, or protests, have been held in Springfield, along with other cities across the U.S. Crowds around 1,000 people have been reported at Springfield rallies.
An organization called Indivisible is promoting the rally. Indivisible describes itself as a grassroots movement made up of “thousands of local Indivisible groups with a mission to elect progressive leaders, rebuild our democracy, and defeat the Trump agenda.”
The believes in the idea that “America has No Kings,” and says, “Now, President Trump has doubled down,” referencing the recent actions of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers, healthcare cuts and more.
“America does not belong to strongmen, greedy billionaires, or those who rule through fear,” the website says. “It belongs to us, the people.”
According to the “No Kings” website, the rally in Springfield will be one of dozens across Illinois on March 28.
Other locations include Peoria, Rockford, Jacksonville, Carbondale, Decatur.
