A 20-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the shooting death of a 20-year-old Peorian.
Peoria police responded to the 300 block of S. MacArthur Highway after a vehicle crashed in the early hours of June 20. As they headed to the scene, officers learned a shooting had happened there. When they arrived, they saw a vehicle had crashed into a tree at Martin Luther King Jr. Park.
When officers approached the vehicle, they saw an adult male inside the vehicle with a gunshot wound to the head.
“Initial information gathered at the scene indicated the victim’s vehicle had sustained multiple strikes attributed to gunfire,” police said in a press release. “The collision that followed the shooting was significant, and the vehicle sustained severe damage as a result.”
The Peoria County Coroner’s Office identified the shooting victim as 20-year-old Teron M. Scott, Jr. An autopsy confirmed he suffered a gunshot wound to the head and died instantly.
Later that day, police identified Christopher P. Adams, 20, as a suspect in the homicide. He was taken into custody in the 200 block of SW Adams Street, police said. He is facing a charge of first-degree murder.
Police learned early in the investigation that a second person was shot. He was transported to the hospital with a gunshot wound to the hand.
