The Chicago Bears are getting back one of their most important defensive players this season when veteran safety Jaquan Brisker returns to the field after missing 12 games due to a concussion that landed him on injured reserve last year.
Considered one of the heartbeats on defense and the team as a whole, Brisker’s return should help reinforce a strong secondary with new defensive backs coach Al Harris and defensive coordinator Dennis Allen.
Brisker’s concussion was the third documented concussion in as many seasons, and while his presence was sorely missed last season, the 26-year old safety doesn’t believe he has anything to prove this year. Last month, Brisker explained why he feels the only thing he has to do this year is stay healthy.
“Just stay healthy. I don’t have to prove anything,” Brisker said. “When I was out there, I made plays. I go attack the ball and I come down and hit, I come down and tackle, and I’m a leader. Really, just have to be out there.”
Availability could be Brisker’s best ability for the new Bears coaching staff and this team, as he has proven to be a big-time playmaker when on the field. His hard-hitting style may put him at risk at times, but there’s no denying that the Bears defense gets a major boost by having Brisker back on the field, especially at full health.
