The Washington Commanders are releasing former Chicago Bears kicker Jake Moody, according to NFL insider Jordan Schultz.
The Bears signed Moody last year after he was waived by the San Francisco 49ers amid multiple missed field goals against the Seattle Seahawks. With Cairo Santos sidelined by injury, Moody stepped into action for Chicago in Week 6 against the Commanders, where he connected on 4-of-5 field goals, including the game-winning kick from 38 yards.
Moody got an opportunity to serve as kicker for the Bears in Week 8 against the New Orleans Saints, where he connected on all four field goal attempts. When Santos returned to the lineup, there were some questions about whether Chicago should stick with Moody. But the Bears squashed those questions by continuing to roll with Santos and placed Moody back on the practice squad, where he was poached by the Commanders on Nov. 17.
During his time with Washington, Moody connected on 10-of-11 field goals, including a pair of 50-plus yard attempts. This summer, Moody has been in competition with undrafted rookie Drew Stevens for the Commanders’ kicker job. Now, it appears that Washington has declared its winner, and it’s not Moody.
