A 16-year-old was arrested Monday after a 5-year-old riding an electric bicycle was struck at an apartment complex near West Peoria.
According to the Peoria Police Department, officers responded to the Parkwood Commons Apartments in the 1600 block of North Great Oak Road at 7:20 p.m. Monday, July 20 after receiving an alert of a hit-and-run crash involving a child.
When officers arrived, they found a 5-year-old boy who had been hit by a car while he was riding an electric bicycle. The child was hospitalized as a result of the crash, but his injuries were minor and nonlife-threatening. However, the vehicle involved in the crash was nowhere to be found when police came on scene.
The 16-year-old was arrested on charges of leaving the scene of an accident and failing to report an accident. He was released into the custody of his parents.
