Chicago Bears sign 4 players after rookie minicamp tryout

The Chicago Bears wrapped up their rookie minicamp last weekend, and they welcomed four new players to the roster after their respective tryouts.

The Bears have signed wide receivers Scotty Miller and Kyron Hudson and linebackers Wayne Matthews III and Jon Rhattigan. Chicago also placed receiver Squirrel White on the reserved/retired list.

It was previously reported that the Bears were signing Miller, a seven-year NFL veteran, who was one of the standouts from the first practice of rookie minicamp, where he had the play of the day hauling in a deep ball from Western Kentucky quarterback Maverick McIvor with a defender draped over him on the very last play of the day.

Like Miller, Rhattigan is another veteran joining the team after his tryout last weekend. Rhattigan, who entered the league as an undrafted free agent in 2021, has appeared in 65 regular-season games with the Seattle Seahawks (2021-23), Carolina Panthers (2024), Pittsburgh Steelers (2025) and Las Vegas Raiders (2025), where he played primarily on special teams.

Hudson and Matthews both join the Bears as undrafted rookies, where they’ll get a chance to make an impression in training camp and the preseason. Hudson, who started his college career at USC, spent his final season at Penn State. In his collegiate career, he totaled 95 receptions for 1,095 yards and 10 touchdowns in 53 career games. Meanwhile, Matthews spent time with Old Dominion (2021-23) and Michigan State (2024-25), where he totaled 254 tackles, including 14 tackles for loss, and 3.5 sacks in 47 career games in college.
