The heat advisory is in effect from noon Saturday to Tuesday evening in all of central and southeast Illinois, with heat index values around 105 degrees.

In parts of the Midwest and Mid-Atlantic regions more than 42 million were under extreme heat watches the morning of June 20, according to the weather service. More than 37 million Americans were under heat advisories across much of the central part of the United States. Over 20 million are under extreme heat warnings, USA Today reported.

What’s a Heat Advisory?

A heat advisory is issued for dangerous heat conditions that are not expected to reach warning criteria. In this case, the weather service advises to consider postponing or rescheduling outdoor activities, especially during the heat of the day.

“If you must be outside, be sure to drink plenty of water and take frequent breaks in the shade. Stay in a cool place, especially during the heat of the day and evening.”
