Carle Health plans to make a long-term “commitment to the Pekin community” with investments and improvements to its Pekin Hospital facilities.
The $8 million project will retire aging, unused hospital spaces and will include a new cafeteria, upgraded infrastructure, green space enhancements, and safer, more reliable access throughout the hospital. The improvements are designed to maintain Pekin Hospital’s commitment to local care while reinforcing the modern adjustments needed to sustain services into the future, according to Carle.

“This project is more than construction — it’s a commitment to the Pekin community,” said Pekin Hospital administrator Tony Howard in a news release. “Carle Health is dedicated to honoring our Pekin legacy and traditions through this modernization and make the updates necessary to provide exceptional care for every community member in need for future generations.”
The initial phase of the project is underway with the relocation of the remaining services in the hospital South Towers, which will be demolished as the construction of the new cafeteria progresses. Carle Health expects the new cafeteria to be completed later this year and anticipates completion of infrastructure updates and external beautification efforts by the middle of 2027.
“We are so excited to share these updates with patients and the community. Areas like the cafe and updated greenspace were specifically designed to be gathering places for the community and inspire healing,” said Carle Health vice president of Construction and Facilities Services Nick Crompton. “Equally as important is the work happening behind the scenes to make necessary upgrades that strengthen the foundation our care depends on.”
