Caleb Williams determined to become first 4,000-yard passer in Bears history

Chicago Bears quarterback Caleb Williams wants to improve his game this season under his first year with new head coach Ben Johnson. Coming off a rookie year in which he threw for 3,541 yards, 20 touchdowns, six interceptions and had a 62.5% completion percentage, Williams wants to make franchise history this year.

Throughout their storied franchise, the Bears have never had a quarterback throw for 4,000 yards in a single season. The highest single-season passing leader is Erik Kramer, who threw for 3,838 yards in the 1995 season.

While Johnson wants to see him increase his completion percentage, Williams also has his eyes on eclipsing the 4,000-yard mark and becoming the first quarterback in franchise history to do so — among other goals.

“I have self goals,” Williams said Tuesday. “Thats being the first 4,000-yard passer in Bears history, that’s a goal of mine. Seventy percent completion that helps the team, keeps them on the field, puts us in better positions. Other than that, just trying to go down the field and score the most points that we can with these drives that we have…Other than that, you’ve got to go win.”

Williams’ goal should not only come as exciting for the fanbase but, with Johnson leading the way at head coach, it should lead to team success. Although his first year in the league was respectable from a numbers standpoint, Williams finding more success under Johnson could not only turn into the quarterback making franchise history but the Bears getting back to the playoffs for the first time since 2020.
