ROCKFORD, IL — A 15-year-old boy has been charged with first degree murder in the June 21 shooting death of a 20-year-old man at a gas station.
According to a news release from the Rockford Police Department, detectives identified the juvenile as a suspect in the case, and the Rockford boy turned himself in June 24. He is lodged in Winnebago County Juvenile Detention.
The fatal shooting of Tristyn August of Machesney Park took place about 4:45 p.m. June 21.
According to police, officers responded to the Circle K gas station, 1030 E. State St., in reference to agunshot victim. Upon arrival, officers found August inside a parked vehicle suffering from an apparent gunshot wound.
The Winnebago County Coroner’s office pronounced August dead at the scene. An autopsy confirmed he died as a result of the gunshot wound.
