It can be perilous in “Yellowstone,” the popular neo-Western drama series on Paramount. People have been shot, run over, strangled and stomped. Now, according to a recall, the beans named for the franchise have some dangers of their own.
More than 4,000 cases of baked beans sold under a brand inspired by the show were recalled, according to a Food and Drug Administration (FDA) notice, because the 15-oz cans did not state on the label that they contained soy.
“Individuals with an allergy or severe sensitivity to soy risk serious or life-threatening allergic reactions if they consume this product,” the FDA said.
Food allergies are a growing food safety concern, the CDC said, noting that they affect 6% of adults in the United States and an estimated 8% of children.
The beans were sold in 23 states, including Florida. No injuries have been reported, according to the alert.
The beans are part of a line of “elevated Western cuisine” inspired by the show, that embodies the “rustic, authentic experience of the Yellowstone universe.” Coffee, seasonings, rubs and canned chili hit the shelves in 2023 with promises to “roll out ongoing expansions across multiple food and beverage categories” in the coming months and years, reported Parade.
