A Florida NBC affiliate, WFLA, reported 21 incidents have been linked to the Revenge of the Mummy ride since its 2004 opening, including reports of nausea, dizziness and a vertebrae fracture.

What is ‘Revenge of the Mummy’ at Universal Orlando?

“Revenge of the Mummy” is an indoor roller coaster housed in Universal Studios Florida, located in the New York City section of the park. It’s themed around the “Mummy” franchise, with its plot centering around “a sequel that, for reasons that will be made clear during the ride, may never be completed.”

It reaches speeds of 45 mph and features sudden drops, fast launches and special effects.

“Digging your nails into the safety rail, you’ll hold on tight as you rush forwards and back on the track, fleeing from the evil Mummy Imhotep,” the ride’s description reads. “Just as it seems you might’ve escaped, you’ll plunge straight down into a pitch-black abyss with no end in sight.”

What happened to woman on ‘Revenge of the Mummy’ ride?

According to reports, the woman reportedly became unresponsive while riding the indoor roller coaster on Nov. 25 and later died at a nearby hospital.

The report did not list a cause of death. The Florida government report “reflected only the information reported at the time of the incident,” and the agency “does not receive updates to initial assessments of a patron’s condition.”

USA TODAY NETWORK Florida reached out to Universal Orlando media about the incident but did not immediately hear back.

What are the physical requirements to ride ‘Revenge of the Mummy’ ride?

According to Universal Orlando’s guide, guests:

There is also a height requirement: a minimum of 48 inches (4 feet).

When did ‘Revenge of the Mummy’ open?

“Revenge of the Mummy” first opened in Universal Studios on May 21, 2004.

There are two other “Mummy” rides at Universal’s theme parks: one that opened a month later at Universal Studios Hollywood, and another in Universal Singapore, which opened on March 18, 2010.

What happened with the death on Stardust Racers?

Kimmissee resident Kevin Rodriguez Zavala, 32, was found unresponsive on the Stardust Racers coaster after riding it late at night on Sept. 17 and later died on the same night. Universal Orlando officials shut down the ride for an investigation into what happened, while Rodriguez’s family has publicly pursued answers into what went wrong.

The family of Zavala had retained civil rights attorney Ben Crump to investigate the death and see what the theme park is doing to prevent this from happening again.

As of December 2025, the Orange County Sheriff’s Office determined that no criminal acts occurred in Zavala’s death. Sheriff’s investigators said the case was ruled an accident and is closed, releasing a final incident report on Dec. 11.

In a statement shared with USA TODAY NETWORK Florida, Crump and the family offered this statement:

“The family of Kevin Rodriguez Zavala and Universal have reached an amicable resolution in this matter. The terms are confidential. The family is grateful for the community’s support and asks for privacy at this time.”
