When was the crash?

Marion County Fire Rescue received the call about 1:43 p.m. June 5. Crews were on scene at 1:47. The woman was declared deceased at 1:51.

What happened in the crash?

According to Florida Highway Patrol troopers on scene this was a head-on crash. The vehicles involved: a Dodge Ram pickup truck driven by a 46-year-old Ocklawaha man and a Buick Enclave driven by the woman.

The Buick was traveling eastbound on CR 42 and the Dodge was westbound on the same road, FHP said.

Troopers said the Dodge crossed the yellow line that divides the road and slammed into the Buick.

Marion County Fire Rescue officials had to extricate the woman from the Buick. The extrication took approximately 15 minutes, fire officials said.

A recent crash

On June 3 there was a fatal three-vehicle crash on CR 42 less than a half mile from the June 5 crash scene.

Concerns about speed

Neighbors who live along that part of CR 42 say they now refer to the road as Interstate 42 because of how fast drivers go.

Those same neighbors said while they didn’t see the crash, they heard what they described like a bomb going off. The group said the June 3 crash had a similar noise.

A man from the group said the man who was in the Dodge kicked opened the passenger door, got out and dropped on the ground. The man said the driver asked “where’s my friend?” The man said there was no friend. An ambulance came and took the driver away.

FHP said the driver was transported to HCA Florida Ocala Hospital for observation.

The men and women at the scene said looking at the woman, they knew she was dead. Asked how often there are crashes on the roadway, they said too often. They said motorists frequently speed on the road. To them, they say it’s ridiculous and that is why they have dubbed the road I-42.
