The Palm Beach Post’s Spring All-County teams are here!
The Post is proud to announce the Player of the Year nominees for boys volleyball. Player of the Year winners will be announced at the Palm Beach County High School Sports Awards, which will be held at the SoFi Center on the Palm Beach Gardens campus of Palm Beach State College on May 28.
Award winners have been contacted by staff with invitations to attend the show, which is produced with support from Baptist Health Orthopedic Care.
First Team All-County Boys Volleyball
Corey Brockman, Jr., Forest Hill
The Falcons rattled off nine straight wins to end the regular season and claim a district championship. Brockman led his squad in kills and hitting percentage. Forest Hill closed the year 15-6 overall, ranked No. 3 overall in the county and reached the second round of the FHSAA Class 2A state playoffs.
Michael Deeds, Jr., Seminole Ridge
Deeds, a junior captain for the Hawks, elevated his game this season, leading Seminole Ridge with 320 kills. The 6-foot-3 outside hitter was efficient in bagging his kills, posting a .355 hitting percentage, but also chipped in his fair share of blocks (31), serve receptions (265) and digs (135) to help the Hawks return to the FHSAA Class 3A state semifinals.
Timeo Domergue, Jr., Spanish River
A Penn State volleyball commit, Domergue brought pinpoint precision to the Sharks’ attack. He rarely erred, hitting at an elite .442 percentage from outside hitter, to fuel Spanish River to a 20-5 finish and an appearance in the regional finals. Domergue enjoyed one of his best performances of the season against Seminole Ridge, bagging 15 kills in a two-set win. It was the only time a Palm Beach County squad beat the Hawks this season.
Pierce Giebenrath, Jr., Seminole Ridge
One can’t overlook Giebenrath’s contributions amid all the offensive firepower on the floor at Seminole Ridge. The junior libero cleaned up the court as well as anyone in Palm Beach County this season, racking up 411 digs and 507 receptions. That defensive prowess helped Seminole Ridge close the year ranked No. 10 overall in Florida.
Evan Holowecky, So., Seminole Ridge
Holowecky set the table for Palm Beach County’s top boys volleyball team, which returned to the FHSAA state tournament once again this season. He dished out 819 assists as the Hawks’ solo setter and Seminole Ridge is 47-14 overall across Holowecky’s freshman and sophomore seasons.
Isaiah McCoy, Sr., King’s Academy
McCoy enjoyed a productive final chapter to his decorated varsity career. A state champion with the Lions last season, he led King’s with 326 kills, a .372 hitting percentage and 58 blocks from the middle blocker position this season. McCoy’s career statistical totals with the Lions are gaudy: 1,174 kills, .410 hitting percentage, 402 blocks, 637 digs and 115 aces.
Second Team
Matthews Hallier, Sr., Spanish River — 301 digs, 15 aces, 370 receptions
Riley Joros, Jr., Seminole Ridge — 297 kills, 240 service pts, 54 aces, 373 receptions, 116 digs
Jamier Moncur, So., Seminole Ridge — 185 Kills and 73 Blocks
Jerris Perez Reyes, Sr., John I. Leonard — 189 kills, 3.5 kills/set, 127 digs, 22 aces, 237 receptions
Thomas Supran, Sr., Suncoast — 97 kills, 42 blocks, 112 digs
Tyler Luttenauer, Sr., King’s Academy — 490 assists
Honorable Mention
Coach of the Year
Scott Barnwell, Seminole Ridge
Barnwell’s Hawks made the deepest run of any local squad by returning to the FHSAA Class 3A state tournament for a second consecutive season. Facing the toughest strength of schedule of any Palm Beach County team, Seminole Ridge finished 24-7 overall and avenged its lone local loss — a two-set tournament loss to Spanish River — in the Region 3-3A championship match. Seminole Ridge closed the year ranked No. 10 overall in Florida.
