FSU baseball's Hunter Carns intends to enter transfer portal

Florida State baseball catcher Hunter Carns intends to enter the NCAA transfer portal, first reported by On3.

Carns appeared in 73 games for the Seminoles, the majority at catcher while also occupying the designated hitter role. While a sophomore, Carns is MLB Draft eligible and could pursue an opportunity in the MLB or explore the transfer market.

Coming to FSU, Carns was highly rated and turned down a contract with the Arizona Diamondbacks, who drafted him in the 20th round of the 2024 MLB Draft. Carns came into the program with high expectations, and he hit .295 in 308 at-bats, with 12 home runs, 47 RBI and 19 doubles in two seasons.

As a sophomore, Carns hit .303, which was the best average on FSU’s team among qualified hitters, six home runs, 32 RBI and 11 doubles while holding a .892 OPS. His production at the plate was mostly consistent, but Carns struggled to keep pitches in front of him at times behind the plate.

Carns is the seventh player to transfer, joining outfielder Chase Williams, infielder Noah Sheffield, pitcher Manny Lantigua, third baseman Kelyvn Paulino Jr., pitcher Jake Echols and first baseman Charlie Buckles.

FSU finished the season 40-19 with a 19-11 conference record and lost in the Tallahassee Regional final to St. John’s.
