The 2026 Winter Olympics in Italy concluded with gold medal moments and dramatic wins on Sunday, Feb. 22.

One of the most talked-about moments in the final hours of the games was the U.S. Men’s Hockey Team’s historic gold medal win over Canada, marking the end of a 46-year gold medal drought in U.S. men’s hockey, and closing the 2026 games. And Team U.S.A. came in second overall for the overall amount of medals and gold medals won in the games.

When did the 2026 Winter Olympics end?

The 2026 Winter Olympics ended on Sunday, Feb. 22. The closing ceremony festivities were hosted at the Arena di Verona, an ancient amphitheater that dates back to 30 A.D., which was recently renamed the Verona Olympic Arena in honor of the 2026 games.

The Winter Paralympic Games will begin Friday, March 6, 2026, and end Sunday, March 15, 2026.

Which country won the most Winter Olympic medals? See final 2026 medal count

Norway is the all-time leader in Winter Olympic medals and won the most medals again in 2026, with 41 medals overall and 18 gold medals.

How many gold medals did the U.S. win in 2026?

The U.S. came in second for overall medals and gold medals, with 33 medals overall. Of those 33 medals, Team U.S.A. brought home 12 gold, 12 silver and nine bronze.
