This offseason, the Miami Dolphins replaced head coach Mike McDaniel and quarterback Tua Tagovailoa with Jeff Hafley and Malik Willis, respectively.
The coaching staff and players on the field might not be tanking, but it’s clear that the team is rebuilding after making sweeping changes to the front office, coaching staff and roster over the last few months.
Still, there’s some belief that Hafley and Willis can find some success in South Florida after they both spent the last two years with the Green Bay Packers.
However, some are still pessimistic about the future for the duo, including CBS Sports’ Jared Dubin, who ranked the duo as the ninth-best new coach-quarterback duo in the NFL this year.
“Willis also posted some eye-popping numbers, but in an incredibly small sample,” Dubin wrote. “He’s only thrown 155 passes in his four-year career, with 89 of them coming over the last two years with the Packers. He will not be in nearly as friendly an ecosystem in Miami as the one he had in Green Bay. And he won’t have Matt LaFleur scheming him into position to succeed, but instead will be coached by Hafley’s offensive coordinator, Bobby Slowik. We don’t yet know what Hafley will be like as a coach, nor what kind of impact he’ll have on the other side of the ball. With the lack of talent on both sides of the ball, it’s hard to see the Dolphins finding much success in 2026.”
The only new duos that were ranked below the Dolphins’ are Jacoby Brissett and Mike Lafleur in Arizona, Geno Smith and Aaron Glenn in New York and Deshaun Watson and Todd Monken in Cleveland.
