Florida A&M men’s basketball earned a historic commitment on Saturday, June 27.
Prized recruit Camden Cooper of Jacksonville announced that he will join head coach Charlie Ward’s Rattlers once he completes high school in 2027. Cooper is rated a three-star by Rivals.com and is considered a four-star on ESPN.
According to CBS Sports college basketball insider John Rothstein, the 6-foot-7 guard/forward is FAMU’s highest-rated recruit in program history. Cooper held Power Four offers from Florida State and Texas A&M.
Cooper spent the 2026 season at Allen D. Nease High School after transferring from St. John’s Country Day School, both near Jacksonville. He helped the Nease Panthers to a 20-7 record and holds high school career averages of 17.7 points, 3.4 rebounds, 2.2 assists, 1.9 steals, and 0.5 blocks.
Naturally slated to graduate in 2028, Cooper has reclassified to the 2027 class. That means he’ll skip his junior year to finish high school a year early. Rivals.com ranked Cooper the 84th best prospect in his original graduation class, 2028.
Cooper will play his final high school season at San Jose Prep in Jacksonville.
FAMU basketball’s addition of Cooper marks the second consecutive season of landing a player with recruiting stars. Jayden ‘JJ’ Joseph, a four-star or three-star on some outlets, will join the Rattlers for the 2026-2027 season.
