STUART — A new structure is taking shape along East Ocean Boulevard in Stuart.
Workers are building an amphitheater, expected to seat more than 2,500 people, as part of a $2.7 million Phase 4 improvement to Memorial Park, 300 Southeast Ocean Blvd.
Memorial Park honors veterans who have served in U.S. wars. The amphitheater will have a covered stage and lawn seating. Construction is expected to be complete in March, according to the city’s website.
About $1.1 million for the project is coming from the city Community Redevelopment Agency, which aims to revitalize downtown and surrounding neighborhoods.
The balance — or $1.6 million — is coming from a federal grant through the American Rescue Plan Act, which was COVID-19 relief legislation, according to the city.
Stuart rededicated Memorial Park on Nov. 11, 2011, following a complete redesign, a website for the park says. The city dedicated 13 new war plaques at the park on Memorial Day 2013 to honor the men and women who served in U.S. wars.
Memorial Park is close to downtown. The park’s expansive green space is used to hold some of the largest annual events in the area.
