The Tampa Bay Buccaneers will close out their three-game homestand in Week 4 with another major NFC matchup as the Green Bay Packers come to Raymond James Stadium. After facing Cleveland and Minnesota at home in consecutive weeks, Tampa Bay gets yet another playoff-caliber opponent before finally heading back on the road. By the end of Week 4, the Buccaneers should have a very good idea of where they stand entering the early portion of the 2026 season.
The Storyline
The biggest storyline surrounding this matchup may be who the Buccaneers likely will not have to face. Following Micah Parsons’ ACL tear earlier this offseason, the star pass rusher is widely projected to begin the season on the physically unable to perform list. Since players placed on PUP must miss at least the first four games of the season, Tampa Bay is unlikely to see Parsons during this matchup.
Parsons is one of the NFL’s most disruptive defensive players and someone capable of completely wrecking offensive game plans on his own. Avoiding him would significantly lessen the challenge for Baker Mayfield and Tampa Bay’s offensive line. Beyond that, the game also represents the finale of Tampa Bay’s extremely important three-game homestand. If the Buccaneers can take advantage of this stretch before the schedule toughens later in the year, it could go a long way toward shaping the NFC playoff picture.
Key Matchups
Buccaneers offensive line vs. Packers pass rush
Even without Parsons, Green Bay still has players capable of creating pressure. Tampa Bay’s offensive line will need to continue protecting Baker Mayfield while helping establish the run game with Bucky Irving and Kenneth Gainwell. Establishing the run game will make Green Bay hesitant in sending the house. If the Buccaneers can keep Mayfield comfortable in the pocket, Tampa Bay should have opportunities to attack through the air.
Buccaneers secondary vs. Packers rushing attack
Green Bay’s offense still has the ability to stress defenses vertically, meaning Tampa Bay’s secondary will once again face another strong early-season test. But the real catalyst for the Packers’ offense is running back Josh Jacobs. Jacobs has the body type to not only wiggle into the second level but also the power and size to grind tough yards and wear down defenses. The Bucs defense must collapse running lanes and make the Packers one-dimensional.
Keys to Winning
For Tampa Bay, controlling the tempo offensively will be critical. If the Buccaneers can establish balance early and avoid predictable passing situations, they can help neutralize Green Bay’s pressure packages while allowing Zac Robinson’s offense to stay aggressive. Defensively, forcing Green Bay into longer drives rather than explosive plays will be key. Todd Bowles’ defense thrives when it can disguise coverages and create confusion, but discipline on the back end will be necessary.
Most importantly, Tampa Bay needs to capitalize on the scheduling advantage. Three straight home games this early in the season are a major opportunity, and finishing the stretch strong against Green Bay could give the Buccaneers significant momentum heading into the rest of the schedule.
