Walton County Fire Rescue has a new chief: Jonathon Davis

Agency veteran Jonathon Davis has been named the new chief for Walton County Fire Rescue.

According to a press release from the Walton County Sheriff’s Office, which announced the news, Davis began his career in public safety in 1999 with Holmes County Emergency Medical Services (EMS). He earned his paramedic certification in 2001 and joined Walton County Fire Rescue full time in 2004.

“Over the years, he has become a respected and trusted leader within the organization, advancing through the ranks as lieutenant, battalion chief, training chief, and, most recently, assistant chief,” the release says.

Davis takes over for Austin Pugh, who in May was announced as the new chief of emergency services for Bay County.

Davis is credited with helping expand Walton County Fire Rescue’s recruit academy and improving its training/onboarding process for new personnel. He was one of the individuals who helped establish the agency’s first officer development program and also graduated from the Florida Fire Chiefs’ Association Emergency Services Leadership Institute.

“Chief Davis is a proven leader who has earned the respect of every agency and individual he has worked alongside,” Sheriff Michael Adkinson said in the release. “His integrity, experience, and unwavering commitment to service make him an exceptional choice to lead Walton County Fire Rescue into the future.”
