FSU baseball vs St. John's: Live updates, scores from Monday

The No. 10-seeded Florida State Seminoles and St. John’s Red Storm will play in the Tallahassee Regional Final on Monday at Dick Howser Stadium. FSU needs two wins to advance, with St. John’s needing just one.

FSU (40-18) beat Coastal Carolina 2-1 and Northern Illinois 7-4 on Sunday and is coming in with some momentum. The Seminoles trailed NIU 4-3 entering the eighth inning before tying the game in the top of the inning. They secured the win with a three-run 10th inning, capped off by Ben Barrett’s two-run homer.

The Seminoles have had excellent pitching in both of their elimination games and will need it to continue. St. John’s beat FSU 6-5 on Friday before crushing NIU 21-8 on Sunday to earn their spot in the regional final.

Cooper Whited, Chris Knier, and Brodie Purcell each pitched 3.1 innings against Northern Illinois. The trio held them to six hits and three walks with 15 strikeouts. Purcell did not allow a run to close out the game and earn the win. He is responsible for both of FSU’s wins this weekend, receiving one after pitching one scoreless inning against Coastal Carolina on Saturday before the game was finished on Saturday.

St. John’s (35-24) is looking to make just their second Super Regional in program history and is sitting in a great spot to get it done. As the 2-0 team, they need just one more win and have played the minimum amount of innings, helping keep their pitching rotation as fresh as possible for the final game or two.

The all-time series between FSU and St. John’s is tied 2-2 after the Red Storm won on Friday. The Seminoles won the first two meetings in 2016, but the Red Storm has won the last two.

FSU is starting Payton Manca

The Seminoles are turning to Payton Manca to start the game against St. John’s. The lefty has pitched in seven games this year with two starts. He has a 5.59 ERA in 9.2 innings, with his longest outing being 3.0 innings.

FSU is the road team

For the second straight game, the FSU Seminoles are the road team. The Seminoles have been the home team twice, and St. John’s has been the road team in both of its games.
