There was one more celebration of the military during Players Championship week.
Three P-8A Poseidon aircraft from VP-30 at NAS Jacksonville conducted a flyover of the Players Stadium Course at TPC Sawgrass just before the lead twosome of Ludvig Aberg and Xander Schauffele teed off for their third round on March 14.
The planes flew in formation directly overhead the first tee and the clubhouse at 2:30 p.m., with the large group of fans around the first tee cheering and toasting the planes as they flew West.
The entire crew of all three planes worked as volunteers at The Players during the second round, on the practice range. They were:
The P-8A Poseidon, according to information provided by NAS Jacksonville, is the Navy’s premier multi-mission, long-range aircraft with advanced capabilities for hunting submarines, tracking surface ships, and conducting intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance across the globe. Patrol Squadron 30 is referred to as “The Pro’s Nest.”
The flyover earlier in the week by the Florida Air National Guard’s 125th Fighter Wing was part of the Military Appreciation Day ceremony that kicked off Players Week.
