Editor’s Note: A previous version of the story incorrectly characterized the Nov. 1 Florida Bandmasters Association District 12 Band Festival as a competition.
Polk County bands have a special place in the hearts of musical enthusiasts and fans in general.
Not only do they work arduously to compete amongst other bands, but they serve a purpose in the sports community: to invigorate fans in attendance as well as the actual team on the field.
Take for instance the Fort Meade band. The Fort Meade Fighting Miner band works diligently to spin flag, rifle and saber. Other bands in Polk County strive to have their own unique performances, whether it’s before, during, halftime or after the games.
“We are different and proud of how we work with our athletics to motivate the team and chant it up in the stands to get the crowd going,” Fort Meade color guard coach Carolyn Presnell said.
The Florida Bandmasters Association District 12 festival will be Nov. 1 at Denison Stadium in Winter Haven. Tickets for the Nov. 1 festival can be purchased here and proceeds directly benefit the county bands.
Below is a list of Polk County schools and their bands. Vote now for who you believe is the best high school band in Polk County. This poll will end by the end of Friday.
