A man was pronounced dead at the scene after he was found inside a burning house on June 29, according to the Marion County Sheriff’s Office.
In a Facebook post, the agency said deputies were called to the 1500 block of Northeast 162nd Street in Citra in reference to a house fire about 11:30 p.m.
Marion County Fire Rescue firefighters arrived on scene and attacked the blaze as the one-story home was fully engulfed, officials said. Firefighters tried rescuing the man who was inside the building and unable to get out.
After the fire was out, detectives began their investigation.
As of 10 a.m. June 30 the victim’s name had not been released because his family had not yet been notified. Detectives will conduct the death investigation while state officials try to determine the cause of the fire.
According to Marion County Fire Rescue, the fire call was received at 11:24 p.m. and first units were on scene at 11:29. The fire was deemed under control at 11:43 p.m.
