A toddler died June 18, days after falling into a backyard pool in Deltona.
The boy’s mother found him face down in the pool June 15 as the family prepared to go to the beach, according to the Volusia Sheriff’s Office. She pulled him out of the water and started CPR until paramedics and deputies arrived at the Leland Drive home.
She estimated that, from the time she last saw him to when she discovered her son in the pool, about three minutes had gone by.
“She believes he slipped out through a sliding glass door that was accidentally left open,” according to the sheriff’s office.
Paramedics took the child to a hospital in Orange City, and he was transferred to a hospital in Orlando.
“Despite days of medical interventions, the boy was taken off life support last night,” the sheriff’s office stated on June 19. “At this time, detectives do not believe foul play was involved, and this was an accidental drowning. The Volusia Sheriff’s Office sends its heartfelt sympathies to the boy’s loved ones.”
He was 17 months old.
