Tiger Woods made his first public appearance since his DUI arrest in March, introducing PGA Tour Commissioner Brian Rolapp at a news conference on June 23 in Cromwell, Conn., to roll out the new PGA Tour schedule format that will begin in the 2028 season.
Woods is the chairman of the PGA Tour’s Future Competitions Committee. He introduced Rolapp and made a brief statement saying that the new two-tiered scheduling format is “thinking boldly of the game we love.”
“His leadership has been tremendous,” Rolapp said about Woods and his work on the committee.
Woods did not take questions at the news conference and quickly left the stage after Rolapp’s question-and-answer session.
“Over the past eight months, the Future Competition Committee has spent a lot of time on a very important and fundamental question: How do we build the strongest possible version of the PGA Tour,” Woods said in his opening statement. “This work was never about any one player or person. It was about bringing together different perspectives, having honest, hard conversations, and thinking boldly about what is best for the game that we all love.”
Woods praised the committee, which included fellow players Adam Scott, Patrick Cantlay, Camilo Villegas, Keith Mitchell and Maverick McNealy.
“It has been a privilege to work with all the committee members and especially my fellow player directors. I’m proud of the work we’ve done and am grateful to everyone who’s contributed along the way. We have to look forward and beyond today and over the horizon to set up the PGA Tour and our sport for the future generations of players and fans.”
