“See ya soon.”
That simple message is what Kevin Record recently shared with family, friends and followers on social media as he nears the finish line of an extraordinary journey.
Record is scheduled to return to Leon High School’s tennis courts at noon Saturday, July 25, bringing to a close his quest to circumnavigate the globe by bicycle. The same courts served as the starting point when the Lions’ tennis coach rolled out of Tallahassee in August 2025.
“It’s hard to wrap my brain around all I’ve seen and who I have met — it’s a good world,” Record told The Tallahassee Democrat on Wednesday while riding along U.S. Highway 98 between Destin and Panama City.
“It has been life-changing.”
Kevin Record raises money for Alzheimer’s, sets record by an American
When Record left Leon High nearly a year ago, he set out with two goals: to become the oldest person to circumnavigate the globe by bicycle and to raise money and awareness for the Alzheimer’s Association in honor of his late parents, Wayne and Jane Record.
Although his bid for the Guinness World Record ended in early spring after a 69-year-old Canadian cyclist completed a 25-country, 18,641-mile ride in 11 months, Record, who turned 66 last April, is believed to be the oldest American to accomplish the feat, though his mileage would be unofficial by Guinness standards.
“Once I knew that I could not break the world record, I made my own ‘record’ and it turned out better – more scenic, ore fun and more on my own terms and pace,” Record said.
He also never lost sight of the bigger mission.
Record has logged more than 17,300 miles across five continents, 18 countries and 30 states. A self-described coffee fanatic, he estimates he has consumed nearly 1,000 cups of coffee along the way while raising more than $25,000 for the Alzheimer’s Association.
“I feel incredibly blessed to be able to honor my parents this way,” Record said.
The public is invited to welcome Record home Saturday as he completes a journey measured not only in miles, but also in memories, impact and purpose.
