Tallahassee is getting an Ollie's Bargain Outlet

Tallahassee is getting an Ollie’s Bargain Outlet, the nation’s largest retailer for closeout merchandise and excess inventory.

A narrow but visible banner has been affixed on the exterior of the former Bealls Outlet on West Tennessee Street, in between Ross Dress for Less and the It’s Fashion store. It plays off Paul Revere’s famous ride, “The Bargains Are Coming! The Bargains Are Coming!” and has the chain’s tag line: “Ollie’s: Good Stuff Cheap.”

A spokesperson for the company, which is headquartered in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, confirmed an opening date of Sept. 23, subject to change.

It’s part of a national expansion plan that is underway. Half a dozen stores in Arkansas, Wisconsin, Texas and other states in the south and Midwest had grand openings in March, according to reporting by USA TODAY.

The next nearest Ollie’s is in Thomasville, Georgia.

Ollie’s known for deep discounts, no frills shopping experience

Ollie’s often boasts how the company sells items at a deep discount, up to 70%. Its optional membership program is called “Ollie’s Army.”

“The six openings planned by the end of March follow four new stores that opened earlier this month and five more in February, bringing Ollie’s total new locations this year to 15 stores across 11 states,” the newspaper said.

According to the company’s website, “Our buyers scour the globe for closeouts, overstocks, package changes, manufacturer-refurbished goods, and irregulars from the finest manufacturers in the world.

“If a manufacturer makes too much of an item or changes their packaging, Ollie’s will buy the overstock at a discount & pass the savings on to you! You’ll always find famous brand name products at Ollie’s, they just might be last year’s colors, styles, or packaging that traditional retailers won’t sell.”
