Trump Mobile phone plan is a tough sell at $47.45

The Trump Mobile T1 Phone is finally set to start shipping this week, which can be paired with the company’s own cellular service.

Well, sort of.

The Trump Mobile “47 Plan” launched in June 2025 alongside the announcement of the T1 phone. It offers customers 5G service, unlimited talk, text and data and several other features.

Its network was touted to bring its customers “top-tier connectivity” and “unbeatable value,” but the pillars of reality don’t quite reach the surface of those claims.

Trump Mobile operates as a mobile virtual network operator (MVNO) rather than relying on a network of its own. And while MVNO plans are considerably cheaper than their primary network counterparts, those savings come with a connectivity cost.

The plan’s price, $47.45 per month, doesn’t scream value either. It’s more in line with what customers would pay for a proper network plan rather than rent-a-tower services.

Here’s how the Trump Mobile plan stacks against the competition, and if switching will save you any money.

What is an MVNO carrier?

An MVNO carrier is essentially a cellular service company that “leases” a network provider’s infrastructure. Plans are usually quite a bit cheaper than their primary network counterparts, which is their primary draw.

When someone signs up with an MVNO carrier, they are purchasing a prepaid plan. That means there is no contract involved, and customers are able to freely switch their plans.

Many MNVO carriers will offer discounts when customers prepay for multiple months bundled together. Patient shoppers can pair those savings with additional discounts, which can easily push their monthly costs below $20 per month.

What are the downsides to using an MVNO carrier?

For casual phone users who just need a phone to be a phone, MVNO’s are a great deal. Anyone who relies on their phone for work or who uses it for entertainment on the go may run into some data speed issues.

Network providers will deprioritize data speeds on most MVNO plans when traffic starts to spike. That means you could easily stream a movie during low-traffic times, but get a stuttering mess when more people are using their devices.

AT&T, T-Mobile and Verizon have also started pairing their plans with additional perks, like discounts on streaming services, cloud storage, hotspots and more. MNVO plans generally don’t include any added bonuses.

Trump Mobile ’47 Plan’ cost comparison

The Trump Mobile “47 Plan” costs $47.45, plus taxes and fees. Here’s what that gets you:

High-speed data is capped at 20GB per 30 days, and is subject to throttling afterward. Throttling is when a network provider lowers your data speeds, typically based on usage.

The chart below compares Trump Mobile’s plan to other popular MVNO plans. Prices and details are based on single-line plans that matched the closest to the “47 Plan.”

Trump Mobile ’47 Plan’ perks

Trump Mobile’s “47 Plan” offers some extra benefits that aren’t typically present on MVNO plans.

Customers get 24/7 roadside assistance, telehealth services and device protection.

Roadside assistance is provided by CT Auto Club Inc.’s Drive America Roadside Assistance program. Subscribers get a $100 benefit allowance for towing, along with flat tire, battery and lockout assistance.

Device Protection is covered by Omega MobileCare. The Trump Mobile website says that devices are protected against mechanical or electrical breakdowns and cracked screens.

Doctegrity provides telehealth services for medical, mental health, pharmacy and biometric care.

No information is given about deductibles or other costs associated with these services.

What carrier network does Trump Mobile use?

When the cellular service was announced, Trump Mobile said that it would work on all three of the U.S.’s major carriers. That appears to no longer be the case.

Unlike other MVNOs, Trump Mobile never explicitly states which networks it has partnered with, and there is no evidence suggesting that its subscribers can utilize multiple networks.

Reuters reported in June 2025 that Trump Mobile was powered by Liberty Mobile Wireless, which is a small, Florida-based MVNO that uses T-Mobile’s network.
