Children ages 8 to 12 will get a behind-the-scenes look at how Palm Beach’s police officers and firefighters serve the community during a two-day summer program.
Registration is open for the Safeguard Palm Beach Youth Academy, which will run June 15-16, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. each day. The first day will be held at the Palm Beach Police Department, 345 S. County Rd., followed by a second day at Palm Beach Fire Rescue Station #3, 2185 S. Ocean Blvd.
Organizers say the program is designed to provide interactive, hands-on experiences that introduce participants to the daily responsibilities of first responders.
The academy is open to children who live in or attend school in Palm Beach. The cost is $100 for the first child and $75 for each additional sibling, and the fee includes program shirts, lunch and take-home items.
Safeguard Palm Beach, a division of the Palm Beach Police & Fire Foundation, is a membership-based community organization focused on safety, crime prevention, risk reduction and emergency preparedness.
