Monsters, glowsticks and panic come to Jacksonville this weekend

The zombies are closing in and all you have to defend yourself is a glowstick. Do you run for your life, stand your ground or break into hysterical laughter?

You can find out for yourself this weekend when 13th Floor Jacksonville opens up its Arlington haunted house attraction for a Halfway to Halloween weekend. (Oh, and please keep in mind that those are actors, not real zombies, and assaulting them with a glow stick is going to get you into big trouble.)

Blackout is the theme, and patrons will work their way through a darkened maze infested with unspeakably horrid beasts of all kind, armed with nothing but a glowstick.

As long as you’re there anyway, you might as well take part in the zombie shoot, play a few escape games and throw some axes.

13th Floor Jacksonville is at 9230 Arlington Expressway, near Regency Mall. Tickets are $29.99 to $84.99. They’re sold on a timed basis, so patrons need to show up on time. The first time slot is 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday. Info: 13thfloorjacksonville.com

Colors of Africa at Prime Osborn

May 29-31 at the Prime Osborn Convention Center. $57.

They’ve been creating art in Africa for a very, very long time. This touring exhibit, which is visiting just three U.S. cities, has art displayed in three themed areas: Ancient African Kingdoms, Egyptian Gods & Symbolism and Landscapes & World Heritage Inspiration. The show opens at 11 a.m. Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Info: thecolorsofafrica.com

Music of Elton John featuring Michael Cavanaugh in Jacksonville

7:30 p.m. Friday, May 29 and Saturday, May 30. at Jacoby Symphony Hall, $32-$92.

The Jacksonville Symphony wraps up its season next weekend with some Rachmaninoff, but not before having a little fun with Sir Elton John’s songbook. Michael Cavanaugh, who played Billy Joel on Broadway’s “Movin’ Out,” handles the Elton parts. Info: jaxsymphony.org

49 Winchester at Ponte Vedra Concert Hall

7:30 p.m. Friday, May 29, at the Ponte Vedra Concert Hall. $53-$82.

The alt-country band called in a few guests for its fifth album, “Leavin’ This Holler,” but you probably shouldn’t expect to see the Czech National Symphony Orchestra joining them onstage this weekend. The band, from Castlewood, Va. (population 2,045), has spent a decade building its reputation, one show at a time. Info: pvconcerthall.com

Gladys Knight, Chaka Khan, Patti LaBelle and Stephanie Mills at VyStar

8 p.m. Sunday, May 31, at VyStar Veterans Memorial Arena. $92-$554.

This show was supposed to happen in February but should be worth the wait. They’re calling this tour “The Queens,” and they aren’t wrong. Mills was the original Dorothy in Broadway’s “The Wiz,” Knight and Khan are Rock and Roll Hall of Famers and LaBelle is, well, Patti LaBelle. Info: jaxevents.com
