St Johns All-County High School Art Show is on display at the St. Augustine Art Association

The St. Augustine Art Association unveils the St. Johns All-County High School Art Show during St. Augustine’s First Friday ArtWalk on April 4 from 5 to 9 p.m. at STAAA.

The annual event, now in its 20th year, celebrates St. Johns County student artists in grades 9 through 12. Running through April 27, more than 150 works of art, including two- and three-dimensional pieces, will remain on display for viewing and judging at the STAAA’s showroom at 22 Marine St. and online at staaa.org.

Presented in partnership with St. Johns County Schools and sponsored by LeShane CPA, the exhibit is designed to recognize and celebrate the artistry of high school students while underscoring the important role art teachers play in every school curriculum.

Jennifer Flynt, STAAA’s executive director, said that every year the county’s young artists impress the judges with an emotional and technical maturity that speaks highly of the guidance and direction of the county’s art teachers.

“Our staff and judges are impressed with the emotional and technical maturity we see in emerging young artists,” she said in a news release. “The students show diversity, depth in medium and creative application.”

Flynt said that having art in school is “critical.”

St. Augustine Art Association’s exhibit Miniature Marvels will run concurrently with the High School Art Show. Miniature Marvels is sponsored in part by grants from the St. Johns County Tourist Development Council, the St. Johns County Cultural Council, the Community Foundation for Northeast Florida and the Benjamin & Jean Troemel Arts Foundation.

Open Tuesday through Sunday from noon to 4 p.m., the STAAA is a nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting excellence in the arts through exhibitions, lectures, workshops, educational programs and community outreach. Since its inception in 1924, STAAA has supported the preservation of St. Augustine’s “vibrant arts community” and “rich artistic heritage and culture.”

“The STAAA fosters a creative and accessible environment for artists of all backgrounds and skill levels,” the release said. “Their permanent collection includes works by the founding members, known as the ‘Lost Colony’ artists.”
