Maria Zack defeated William “Bill” Reicherter in the Sept. 30 Republican primary for Florida House District 90, securing more than 50% of the vote and winning by about 159 ballots.
Zack will now face Delray Beach Vice Mayor Rob Long, a Democrat, and independent candidate Karen Yeh in the Dec. 9 special election to fill the seat left vacant by the July death of state Rep. Joe Casello.
Long, who entered the race this summer, has drawn broad support from local Democratic leaders and unions. Yeh, a businesswoman, qualified as a no-party candidate.
District 90, which covers parts of Delray Beach and Boynton Beach, is considered one of Palm Beach County’s most reliably Democratic districts. All registered voters in the district will be eligible to cast ballots in December’s general election.
Polls for the Dec. 9 special election will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. The voter registration deadline is Nov. 10, with early voting scheduled from Nov. 29 through Dec. 7.
Vote-by-mail ballots must be received by 7 p.m. at the Supervisor of Elections main office, or by 5 p.m. at one of the branch offices. Ballots can be tracked through BallotTrax or at VotePalmBeach.gov.
Because of the timing, District 90 will continue without representation during fall committee weeks in Tallahassee, but a new lawmaker will be seated in time for the 2026 legislative session.
