SEC pass rusher meets with Jaguars' position coach before NFL draft

Tennessee edge rusher Tyre West is on the Jacksonville Jaguars’ radar ahead of the 2026 NFL draft.

According to SI’s Justin Melo, West had a virtual meeting with Jaguars’ defensive line coach Matt Edwards recently.

Let’s take a closer look at what West could bring to the Jaguars.

Jaguars 2026 NFL draft prospect to watch: Tennessee DE Tyre West

West has played just 835 career snaps over four seasons, filling a rotational role along the Tennessee defensive front. The bulk of his snaps have come as a pass rusher. He has totaled 34 pressures and six sacks over the last two seasons and has taken some snaps lined up inside. Out of 474 edge rushers, West ranked 108th in PFF’s pass rush productivity metric in 2025 — an efficiency metric.

West is the 327th-ranked prospect on the consensus big board.

Here is what NFL.com’s Lance Zierlein wrote about West in his pre-draft scouting report:

“West’s snap and start counts are unusually low for a draftable prospect. He has the bone thickness of an interior defender, but a chunk of his collegiate reps came at 5-technique and even-front defensive end. He’s a solid athlete with good quickness but below-average hand usage. He appears capable of sinking and anchoring but will be tested against interior double teams on the next level. West’s ability to pressure the pocket could earn him an opportunity at the next level.”

What is the Jaguars’ need at defensive end?

Depth at defensive end is needed, with only Josh Hines-Allen, Travon Walker, BJ Green, and Danny Striggow under contract currently. A more consistent pass rush presence behind Hines-Allen and Walker is needed as well.
