A 29-year-old woman was shot and killed in an apparent murder and attempted suicide on June 25 in Riviera Beach, city police said.
Investigators say a 27-year-old year man shot the woman during a domestic dispute in the Thousand Oaks community, off Congress Avenue south of Silver Beach Road, then turned the gun and shot himself in the jaw.
Paramedics took both the man and the woman to St. Mary’s Medical Center in West Palm Beach, but the woman did not survive, police said.
The suspected gunman remained hospitalized in St. Mary’s Intensive Care Unit on June 26, according to a police statement. He was listed in critical but stable condition. Charges are pending the completion of the investigation and the medical clearance of the shooting suspect.
Investigator say the man and woman were believed to be involved in romantic relationship and the case is being investigated as a domestic-related homicide.
Police responded shortly before 6:30 p.m. to the 4000 block of Canopy Lane after receiving multiple notifications from the ShotSpotter gunfire detection system. The man and woman were reportedly at the community’s gatehouse when an argument between them escalated into violence.
Multiple witnesses came forward with corroborating statements and a firearm was recovered at the scene.
