Travis Hunter set career-highs in receiving yards (42) and captured his longest reception of the year – a 28-yard acrobatic grab – in the Jacksonville Jaguars’ 26-21 win over the 49ers.
He was targeted five times and hauled in three catches while still taking a few snaps on defense.
One other noticeable difference on offense in this game was Hunter’s opportunities at the other levels of the field. In the first three games, he’s almost solely been targeted on short-area throws.
However, unlike the last two games, he took a smaller role at cornerback, since Montaric Brown is easing his way back from injury and took the bulk of the snaps opposite of Tyson Campbell.
There were also fewer three-cornerback looks from the Jaguars in this game, with Anthony Campanile leaning on his base 4-3 defense against the 49ers.
In Week 2 vs. the Bengals and Week 3 vs. the Texans, Hunter recorded 43 defensive snaps in each game, but vs. the 49ers, he only took nine snaps on defense, according to PFF’s early tracking data.
He was targeted once, allowing a seven-yard reception from Ricky Pearsall, and recorded two tackles.
Hunter is slowly settling into pro ball, and looked a lot looser as a receiver, especially considering he had a lighter load on defense.
