Florida Aviation Career Training and St. Johns River State College have partnered to offer the professional aeronautics certificate program starting Jan. 6 on the college’s St. Augustine campus.
The fast-track aeronautics program is designed to address the national pilot shortage “through an accelerated pathway tailored for career-focused students.” The pilot program is being offered to new and returning college students and local high school juniors and seniors through dual enrollment opportunities.
The St. Augustine campus will offer weekly classes combined with FACT flight training at St. Augustine’s Northeast Florida Regional Airport.
The 20-hour weekly program includes private-pilot certification, instrument rating, commercial pilot certification and flight instructor certifications.
According to a news release from Florida Aviation Career Training, for the next two years, students will acquire the knowledge and FAA certifications to become “successful professional aviators.”
“With state-of-the-art training in Garmin G1000-equipped Technologically Advanced Aircraft and simulation via Advanced Aviation Training Devices utilizing Boeing’s ForeFlight Electronic Flight Bag, the PAC program provides industry-leading training equipment,” it said. “Graduates will be well-prepared to start building flight hours as instructors or in other commercial aviation roles.”
Christopher Johnson, the program’s architect, described the program as efficient and cost effective.
“Graduates of our program will complete their training in under two years, ahead of traditional four-year programs and at a fraction of the cost,” said the former professor at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University.
Johnson said that an online information session will be held Dec.18.
