FSU baseball has landed its second pitcher in as many days, with former Penn State Nittany Lions starter Isaiah Sheyter committing to the Seminoles on Tuesday out of the transfer portal.
Sheyter started 14 games as a true freshman at Penn State, going 2-7 with a 9.43 ERA in 48 2/3 innings. He allowed 53 runs on 74 hits and 30 walks, striking out 38 batters and hitting seven.
The righty pitched five or more innings three times, including a career-high 5 2/3 innings against Illinois. He pitched five innings in two of his final three starts, shutting the Washington Huskies out and allowing just one run against the Minnesota Gophers. They were his best starts of the season.
Sheyter is from Elizabethtown, Pennsylvania, and is listed at 6-foot-2 and 190 pounds. He will have four seasons of eligibility in Tallahassee.
He went 8-3 with a 0.77 ERA in 63 innings as a senior at Elizabethtown High School before joining Penn State. He recorded 107 strikeouts while giving up just seven earned runs and 21 walks, holding opponents to a .150 batting average.
Sheyter is the fourth pitcher that Link Jarrett has landed out of the portal this offseason, joining Cayden Suchy, Sebastian Lippman, and Alex Philpott, who committed on Monday. They have also landed outfielder Ty Peeples and designated hitterJackson McKenzie.
