Deputies with the St. Lucie County Sheriff’s Office responded to a residence July 7 following reports of a person suffering from a gunshot wound.
Upon arrival in the 2700 block of Essex Drive about 3:30 p.m., deputies learned that one man had shot another man with a rifle, according to a news release.
Deputies took the suspect into custody and began providing emergency medical care to the injured man until St. Lucie County Fire District crews arrived. The injured man was transported to a local hospital for treatment.
No other information about the incident was available the evening of July 7.
The Sheriff’s Office said the investigation is “very active and fluid,” and detectives with the Criminal Investigations Division are processing the scene and conducting interviews.
According to the news release, “residents can expect a significant law enforcement presence in the area for the foreseeable future as the investigation continues.”
Sheriff’s officials said this appears to be an isolated incident, and there is no threat to the public.
