With the Jacksonville Jaguars wrapping up their second week of OTAs, let’s put together a projection of what the starting offense could look like come Week 1.
While what happens during OTAs certainly won’t solely dictate playing time or who earns roster spots, these practices do provide us with some insight into where things stand on the depth chart, along with who may be standing out early on.
So, taking what we’ve heard from those covering practices over the last two weeks into account, here is how the Jaguars offense could look against Cleveland.
Quarterback: Trevor Lawrence
Lawrence is the starter, Nick Mullens the backup, while Carter Bradley and Joey Aguilar compete for the QB3 role, which is likely on the practice squad.
Running back: Bhayshul Tuten
I anticipate that Tuten, Chris Rodriguez, and LeQuint Allen will all factor into the running back equation this season. That said, someone has to be the starter on paper, and in the two OTA practices open to the media, Rodriguez has not yet practiced, according to SI’s John Shipley.
Wide receiver: Brian Thomas Jr., Parker Washington, Jakobi Meyers
Travis Hunter will see snaps as well, but these three will be the expected starters on the depth chart.
Tight end: Brenton Strange
We know Strange leads the way at tight end, but how the depth chart shakes out behind him with Nate Boerkircher, Quintin Morris, Tanner Koziol, and Hunter Long remains to be seen. Also, how much of an uptick in 12 and 13 personnel we will see this season is worth monitoring as well.
Offensive line: Cole Van Lanen, Ezra Cleveland, Robert Hainsey, Patrick Mekari, Anton Harrison
The Jaguars embraced competition along the offensive line last summer — so there is no reason to think that they won’t do that again this year, particularly along the interior. That said, with training camp still having to take place, I’ll give experience the benefit of the doubt.
