Potbelly Sandwich Works has opened its first Jacksonville location, bringing its signature toasted sandwiches and comfort food to the Deerwood Village shopping center on Old Baymeadows Road. The Chicago-based chain debuted May 15 in a former Subway space, marking the first of up to seven planned locations in the area. Owner Patrick Prendergast, a Chicago native, said he wanted to introduce local diners to the brand’s “Chicago flavor.”
The restaurant’s menu features popular sandwiches such as the Wreck, Cubano, Prime Rib Steak and Mama’s Meatball, along with options like the Mediterranean and Pizza Melt. Potbelly also offers hand-scooped milkshakes in a variety of flavors.
Expansion is already underway, with a second location planned for Beach Boulevard in Intracoastal West that is expected to include a drive-thru. Established in 1977 in Chicago’s Lincoln Park neighborhood, Potbelly has at least 450 stores nationwide. With the Jacksonville opening, the chain now has 17 in Florida, according to the chain’s website.
