Port St. Lucie was among the 10 All-America City Award winners the National Civic League announced June 29.
The winners were recognized for their “transformative, community-driven efforts to strengthen environmental sustainability and for their civic infrastructure — the network of relationships, partnerships and capacities driving effective decision-making and problem-solving,” according to a news release.
Port St. Lucie was recognized for efforts that show its “deep environmental commitment,” including:

A writeup about the city says:
“Once a retirement community without basic infrastructure, Port St. Lucie has transformed into one of America’s fastest-growing and most forward-thinking cities through bold, resident-driven innovation,” the news release says. “Paired with robust public engagement, regional climate partnerships, and grassroots programs like cleanups and tree giveaways, Port St. Lucie is building a cleaner, more resilient future from the ground up.”
The 17 finalists convened in Denver, Colorado, from June 27-29 to present their stories for judgment. Teams consisted of people of all ages, political beliefs and walks of life, including high school students, older adults, city managers, business leaders, police officers, faith leaders and elected officials, the news release says.
Award winners were announced during the closing ceremony. Tallahassee was the only other Florida city that won. The other eight winners were:
“These communities exemplify the spirit of collaboration and civic responsibility necessary to safeguard our planet for future generations,” the news release says.
